Meet Dibby the cat

We got a new cat about a month ago and she is the best pet anyone could ask for!!!! She loves to sit on your lap and talk to you. She hasn't gotten into too much trouble yet - she has only destroyed our shower curtain so far :o) When we first got her, I was sick for about two weeks and she just hung out on the couch with me and we bonded. Dibby loves to play, but her favorite toy is a paper bag from the grocery store. Figures. We spend all this money on different things for her and she likes a paper bag.

South Carolina Barackin' and Rollin' (Cheezy, I know, but it's funny)

Over the MLK weekend, I went to Columbia South Carolina along with three other faithful volunteers from Columbus. We stayed in Jill's cousin's cottage on the lake and it was so beautiful, we debated if we should come back to Ohio or not.

We arrived on a Friday night, spent all day Saturday knocking on doors to identify Obama supporters. It was pouring rain, but we went out anyway, garnering support for our candidate. The support for Obama was overwhelming and at the end of the day, even though all my clothes were soaking wet, I couldn't really complain. It was amazing to see volunteers from all over the country - some as far as Texas and New Hampshire - down in South Carolina, coming together for a common cause. I even saw someone I went to Cabrini with from kindergarten to 8th grade in Columbia for the weekend as well! It was crazy!

Sunday we spent the day flyering cars at churches to invite people to the rally with the man himself later that night. After flyering, we went to the rally and wonder of wonders, we saw the campaign staffer who organized the Ohio rally and he let us in through the side before most people so we could be in front! The rally was awesome and very moving and inspiring.

The reason why I like Obama so much is that he really inspires and challenges us, the American people, to work along side of him for change. While he does have a way with words, he is not just a "motivational speaker" as some people accuse him of being. He has great judgment and also understands what it is like to be a normal person. With candidates who have similar views on the issues, we really need to ask ourselves "who is actually going to get this work done?" Without a doubt, that person is Barack Obama.

Bangalore, India

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a conference on "The Chemistry and Physics of Materials" in Bangalore India. Although I am very thankful for this opportunity, I am glad to be back in the states. The whole experience can be summed up in two words : interesting and overwhelming. Bangalore is in southern India and is known as the "Silicon Valley of India". In other words, when you call your respective computer company with technical questions, you are most likely talking to someone in Bangalore.

Bangalore is a very interesting place. Our accommodations were on the campus of one University and the conference was at a different one. Each campus reminded me of a tropical paradise - they were green, beautiful, and clean. The city however, was almost the complete opposite. The poverty that I saw in both the city and the country side is worse than anything I imagined. Its quite sad really and it tears my heart out that I couldn't help them. It has been very difficult to come back to my cushy privileged life here in the US after seeing the way that some people live in India.

The experience made me thankful that I live in the United States. It didn't appear as though there was a garbage system and it was very dirty and polluted in many places. However, the food was amazing and I was amazed at how friendly (most) of the people were. Our hosts were very gracious and welcoming. I will be forever touched by the kindness of many of the people I encountered on the trip. The trip was absolutely amazing! I am so thankful I had the opportunity to visit!!!!!!!

Now for some pictures:

Here are a few pictures I took on campus (it was a beautiful place!!!!!) :

Pictures from our guided tour to Hindu holy sites and temples:

(we had to walk up all the stairs shown below without our shoes on, there were 600 something steps)

Side note : below is the image of a man and a liger, no joke, a liger.

Bangalore:

There were ferrel dogs everywhere. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of a wild cow, but those were all over the place too.

Shops in a small village - what most villages in the country side looked like:

Just for fun:

Kellie with a "Thumbs up" - the Indian pop made by Pepsi

Below is our daily mode of transportation when going into the city to shop, eat, etc. The drivers were constantly trying to rip us off because we were Americans. I must say however, that rickshaw drivers are very talented and kept us alive on the crazy streets of Bangalore.

HUGE masala dosi from Woody's - a very good restaurant on Commercial Street.

oops . . .

So is everything 39 rupees in this store?

So that's that. Like I said, it was a great trip!!!!!!! I have a lot more photos so if there are requests, I will post more. Until then, Happy Holidays! Andy and I are heading to Knoxville on Friday and will be down in the warmth for about a week! Talk to you soon!!!!

Countdown to Change Rally - AKA one of the coolest experiences of my life

Friday was the Columbus Countdown to Change Rally with Barack Obama. The Buckeyes for Obama and Central Ohioans for Obama has been hard at work selling tickets and organizing volunteers for the past two weeks. Friday the day finally arrived and all of the hard work was definitely worth it!

One thing in particular that stood out was when he talked about how "one voice can change a city, one city can change a state, and one state can change a nation". This was really inspiring to me and reminded me why we are doing all this work in Ohio, an early primary state. We can still make a difference and help give the campaign momentum to bring about the change we so desperately need.

Now for a picture tour of the event:

The stage before the Rally started.

People getting pumped up for the senator to speak (there were a lot of people there)!

Hope is finally here!

The man of who brings a message of change and hope to this country:

I gave him one of those ugly buckeye necklaces on behalf of the Buckeyes for Obama

After the donor luncheon:

One of the after party locations - we felt compelled to celebrate the rally and all the inspiration!

Only in Detroit . . .

I don't think any words are needed.
